Our hints and tips

Serums.. What are they all about?

A serum is a thin fluid used to help the skin hydrate and repair, there are millions available to buy so it is important to buy the correct one for your skin type and condition.

Serums contain a high concentrate of small molecules which can penetrate the skin in a shorter amount of time which allows you to see the results of brighter and more hydrated skin in a shorter amount of time.

Serums are a great addition to a skin care routine for treating skin issues like discolouration, dullness, fine lines or acne and when used with moisturiser, helps with skin hydration.

So what are the benefits?

  • The absorb quickly into the skin making them an ideal product to layer with moisturiser to give your skin a much needed boost
  • Serums can help improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles as some can contain ingredients like retinol. Retinol is great however if you are planning on having waxing i.e. brows or lip, or more advanced facial treatments such as microdermabrasion, retinol will prevent you being able to have these treatments, something to be aware of!
  • Serums have the potential to provide more visible results due to containing more active ingredients
  • They feel light on your skin and not greasy as they are thinner and absorb quicker
  • Can protect the skin from free radicals and future damage. Serums with ingredients like vitamin C, vitamin E, resveratrol can help prevent oxidative damage from UV light and pollution which can lead to premature aging and wrinkles.

When it comes to serum its important to decide what your skin needs as to which to buy…. Typically you can buy anti-aging serums, skin brightening serums, hydrating serums, free-radical fighting serum, acne-prone and sensitive skin serums. If you would like any guidance on which type of serum would be good for you, book in for a consultation with Dani.

You would apply a serum before moisturiser at the time that would best suit the serum, for example an anti-aging serum would be best applied in the evening, where anti-pigmentation or antioxidant serums best applied in the morning to protect you skin for the day ahead. Where hydrating serums for drier skin can be applied twice daily to help keep your skin moisturised.
