Toner typically comes in a liquid form and is used after cleansing to help remove further dirt from our skin that the cleanser didn’t reach and to quickly hydrate the skin. It helps prepare your skin for the rest of your skincare routine as well as lots of other really important stuff!
Most toners will have ingredients like glycerin, alpha and beta-hydroxy acids, antioxidants and more, there are so many potential benefits of making sure you complete this step in your daily routine.
- Toners help to remove dirt, oil and make up even after double cleansing!
- Toners help to minimise the appearance of breakouts, most toners will contain ingredients like salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, both of which have blemish fighting properties.
- The skins natural PH level is usually 5.5-5.6 so on the acidic side of the spectrum. Most cleansers on the other hand are the opposite, alkaline, which can lead to dryness and irritation. Using a toner directly after cleansing will quickly correct the skin PH avoiding these not desirable effects.
- Sulphur is another common ingredient in toners which have anti-irritation and oil-regulating properties, so are extremely good for oily skin types.
- Toners can help protect the skin if the contain polyphenols which are active ingredients from plants that acts as an antioxidant defending the skin against environmental damage.
- Toners can also help close gaps in skin cells which may help reduce the appearance of pores
So all in all, toners are a pretty important part to any skin care routine!
You can apply with a cotton pad, with your clean hands or even spritz onto the face if you prefer, the important bit is that you use it day and night after cleansing xxx
